I took these Cicada's at a beach resort in Crete this summer, my father and I went to have a look around the grounds of a hotel behind Costa Beach where we spending some free time on a tour of the beach and Chania Town. Its quite unusual to see Cicada's this close, we mostly just hear the cacophony of "hissing" they make in the trees of tropical countries in the Summer months. They were all over the tree barks in the hotel grounds, apparently the male of the species has a tymbal underneath their main body that expands and contracts making the clicking sound they are famous for.
Many of the children in Greece are poor and busk for money from tourists, we saw many playing accordions like this little girl in Athens too. I edited this image in Adobe Camera Raw ( although you don't get all the features that ACR offer to raw file users, you can still bring a jpg file into it), cropped the image and did a bit of selective colour editing.
I took this pigeon taking a sip of water from the main fountain in Rhodes recently on my summer cruise to the mediterranean, we had experienced stiflingly hot and humid temperatures, it had been 105 degrees in Athens, so it wasn't surprising that the local pigeons were needing a drink.
