My World Tuesday: The Falkirk Wheel and Helix Project
The Falkirk Wheel is situated at Rough Castle near Falkirk, and is the worlds only Boat Lift. Constructed for the Millennium Link Project and completed in 2002, the Wheel is designed to connect the Forth and Clyde Canals with the Union Canal. Also down by the Wheel is the Helix Project which is symbolized by the two Horses or Kelpies Sculpture in the foreground of the second photo.
You can find out how to visit the Wheel at Falkirk Wheel and the Helix Project at their website

I would love to see it sometime! I wonder what makes it different from the liftlocks at Peterborough and Kirkfield here in Canada. Hmmm I just may have to research that. It sure LOOKS different. :)
Thanks EG, I think this one is "one of a kind". I love your photos, thanks for dropping by, and I hope to see some photos of your Peterborough some day too. Happy researching:)
Great photos, but I'd sure love to see more of those horse sculptures. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River.
That sounds like a great system. I love the sculpture. It fits in with the functional part visually.
Very interesting! I too would love to see it some time.
I have always wanted to see this in person - thanks for sharing it through these excellent photos as it's quite a distance from where I live!
Very interesting. I'll have to see if I can find out how it works, too. Curious Canadians!
I love the kelpies!
