There is a lot of debate about the practice in the Sacramento Valley. We have some of the worst air pollution in the country and when we might have a blue sky day, that is when they burn.

Looks almost like a geyser if you don't notice the blue tint in the smoke. Beautiful in its way. And efficient. Nice shooting.

It's a very pretty scene but I can see how that would quickly pollute the air in a valley.

Thanks everyone:) its still legal in Scotland to do this, but, yes its not very environmentally friendly. Its supposed to regenerate the soil after harvesting but whether that works I don't know, this one was out of control though and required 3 fire engines to put it out, the farmers are supposed to inform the Fire Service when they are going to do it.
